Sandhill is a spacious modern house, equipped with everything you could need to make a holiday easy. It is but 200 yards from the shore and the tide retreats for two miles or more, leaving wonderful washed sand for walks; up to five islands can be visited on foot. The bay is ideal for the hunter gatherer as it is full of mussels, cockles and oysters; there is even an oyster packing station 150 yards from the house. Tiernaur is not a tourist community, but an area of friendly small farmers often doubling as fishermen. Although having a remote feel, a 10 minute walk brings one to the pub, which has a shop and serves food. There are a number of restaurants and small supermarkets in Newport and Mulranny, 6 and 4 miles away respectively. Castlebar and Westport, each half an hour away, are excellent towns for shoppers and Westport is one of the most attractive towns on the west coast. But the glory of Sandhill is the views from most of the windows, unspoiled views that keep drawing one back again and again.

Accommodation:
The house is equipped to make holidaymaking simple. It has a washing machine and dishwasher, iron and ironing board, television and a stereo. Cooking is on an excellent Rangemaster gas cooker; gas is supplied till the bottle runs out. All electricity and oil for central heating is included in the price. There are wooden floors throughout all rooms. The dining area, sitting room and master bedroom all face west over the sea. The sitting room has an open fire and turf briquettes are available in the local shop. The master bedroom has a shower and WC en suite and there is also a large bathroom with WC, bath and separate shower. A travelling cot and high chair are also available.
Directions:
Head west from Newport towards Achill. In 6 miles there is a sign announcing the approach of Nevin’s Newfield Inn and a small lake on left. Turn left immediately after these and left in 300 yards at T junction at shore. In 150 yards, halway up the hill, Sandhill is on left, the righthand of a double entry with a scarlet wooden gate.

Heating: oil fired CH + electric immersion for HW. Included in rental. Open fire. Turf briquettes available locally. Pets. Well behaved pets welcome, but not a menagerie! Bed Linen and bath towels provided. Please bring towels for swimming.
