We are situated at the western extremity of the Sliabh Liag peninsula, in the wonderfully remote parish of Glencolmcille. The area hosts approximately eighty documented archaeological sites spanning a period of 5000 years including important examples of virtually all monument types known nationally.



Glencolmcille is a Gaeltacht area and the Gaelic language is still in common use here. Oideas Gael, the Ulster Cultural Centre was established in the area in 1984 to promote the language and Irish culture. Today, it is world renowned and plays host to visitors from all over the world who come to learn Irish at all levels, as well as attending other courses run by the centre, including Archaeology, painting, Folklore, traditional dancing, fiddle school etc. The area is a mecca for traditional Irish music and Cairdeas na bhFidiléirí run a fiddle school in the first week in August every year, known as "fiddler’s week".

For the hillwalker, Glencolmcille is a paradise. Its stunning landscape and sense of splendid isolation combine to make walking here a special experience.
