Moss Cottage is fully equipped for six people and has a four star rating from the Irish Tourist Board. It offers self catering accommodation in a three bedroom cottage, tucked away in a two-acre site with large landscaped gardens. The cottage is just a 5 minute walk from Bunclody, a picturesque town just 90 minutes drive from south Dublin or one hour from the ferry at Rosslare. Bunclody is well serviced with mini-markets, newsagents, bars, restaurants, swimming pool and a new 4-star hotel with spa facilities. There are some lovely scenic drives along the Slaney valley and to popular viewpoints on Mount Leinster.
Moss Cottage is ideally suited to activity holidays, such as walking, cycling, horseriding or golf. It is conveniently located between the Wicklow mountains and the Blackstairs range. Two of Ireland's major waymarked hiking trails start within three miles of Moss Cottage-the southern end of the Wicklow Way is at Clonegal while the northern end of the South Leinster Way is at Kildavin. The owners can arrange to pick you up and drop you off and either end of the trail, they can provide local knowledge and twenty five years of hiking experience through guided walks in Wicklow, on the Blackstairs, by the Barrow river, or along the Wexford coast.
For golfers, there is a wide variety of both links and parkland courses will suit all handicaps. In south Wicklow, golf has been played at Coolattin since the early part of the century. Mount Wolseley Golf and Country Club, near Tullow, is located in the ancestoral home of Frederick York Wolseley, who gave his name to the famous Wolseley cars.
Carrigbeg Stables at Bagenalstown offers an all weather outdoor horse riding arena, a cross country course, farm rides, and an indoor arena. If you would like to canter on the beach, Curracloe House Equestrian Centre, is eight miles north-east of Wexford Town. Alternatively, you can trek through the Wexford Sloblands, viewing the famous rare geese and teeming wildfowl which winter there. The facilities include a spacious enclosed arena, two grass arenas, and a 25-jump cross country course.
Cycling provides a great way for all the family to enjoy the sights, scents and sounds of the countryside and hidden areas of Ireland. From Moss Cottage, you can find an endless variety of cycling routes, including small mountain roads, broad river valleys, and a picturesque coastline.
There are gorgeous gardens in the hinterland of Bunclody. A beautiful day out might include a trip to the JFK Arboretum, near New Ross. Planted in memory of the former American President whose ancestors came from the area, the Arboretum covers 252 hectares with a vast collection of trees and shrubs.
The Irish National Heritage Park contains 14 historical reconstructions depicting Ireland's heritage from the Stone Age to the arrival of the Normans in 1169. Johnstown Castle is a fairy tale turreted castle dating from the 19th century.
The location is particularly suitable as a base from which to visit some of Ireland’s major attractions. Dublin is easily accessible for a day trip by bus. Within one hour’s drive are the heritage city of Kilkenny with its massive Norman Castle; Glendalough, an early Christian monastic settlement in stunning mountain scenery; the Viking town of Wexford with its quaint narrow streets; and Waterford city, famous for its hand-cut crystal.
Bed and breakfast accommodation in a Victorian style house is available in the same grounds.
